Joe Rafferty thinks he has the answer to John Mousinho’s right-back dilemma. He suggests finding a way to have both him and Zak Swanson in the same starting lineup, even if it means having 12 players on the field.

The competition between Rafferty and Swanson has been ongoing since they both joined the team in the summer of 2022.
Rafferty recently reclaimed his spot after a suspension, while Swanson temporarily stepped aside due to a family tragedy. However, Swanson returned to the team for a 5-1 victory against Gillingham in the EFL Trophy.
This ongoing rivalry for the right-back position remains intense, with Rafferty acknowledging Swanson’s skills and the challenge for the manager to include both of them in the starting XI.
Rafferty stated, “It’s up to the manager to find a way to get us both in the lineup simultaneously, which is probably his biggest challenge.
In the summer, I remember reading in The News that the manager didn’t want to strengthen the right-back position, which is reassuring. We definitely need another player in that position.”
He emphasized that the competition between them keeps both players at their best, pushing them to perform well. They know they must earn their spot on the team and maintain their form.
Rafferty also highlighted the team’s support for Swanson, who recently faced personal tragedy. He explained how the team rallied around Swanson, offering him comfort and a distraction when needed.
The unity within the team, both among players and staff, has been evident in their support for Swanson during his difficult time.
