Crawley Town Manager Expresses Frustration Over Morecambe Postponement but Sees Silver Linings…

Crawley Town’s scheduled away match against Morecambe this upcoming Saturday has been called off, and Scott Lindsey has labeled it as an inconvenience.

The reason for the postponement is that Morecambe has experienced several international call-ups, leading to the absence of more than three key players from their first team. Consequently, the game had to be postponed, with the rescheduled date yet to be determined.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s 1-0 loss to Wrexham, Reds boss Lindsey expressed his perspective: “I view this situation as an inconvenience. To be honest, I would have preferred to play the match, especially given our current form; I would have liked to continue that momentum. It’s an unexpected break, and we’ll make the most of it. It is what it is, far from ideal.”

However, Lindsey also finds some positives in this circumstance, saying, “We’ll use it as an opportunity for the players to spend the weekend with their families.”

Crawley Town has been subjected to numerous arduous journeys for their away matches, which can take a toll on both the players and staff. This included a recent trip to Doncaster on Tuesday night. Lindsey commented, “It’s been a challenging stretch; we’ve had some very early mornings and late travels. I arrived home at 4 o’clock in the morning after the Doncaster match.”

Despite the league break, Crawley played against Sutton United on Tuesday night and has a match against Worthing scheduled for next Tuesday in the Sussex Senior Cup. This presents Lindsey with an opportunity to rest some players and provide playing time for squad members.

In the 1-0 loss to Wrexham, Ben Gladwin had to leave the pitch due to injury in the first half, and Adam Campbell fell victim to a harsh tackle by Andy Cannon, resulting in a red card for Cannon. Liam Kelly was absent from the game due to a head injury sustained during the midweek match against Doncaster. Concussion protocols dictate that there is a specific process for his return to action.

Reflecting on the situation after Saturday’s match, Lindsey stated, “We now have a cup game, which offers a good chance for me to provide some much-needed rest to players who have accumulated a significant amount of playing time. Complaining won’t get us anywhere; we simply have to use this as a positive, recognizing that some players require rest.
