Carlos Corberan namechecks the two players he knew would improve West Brom this season…

West Brom manager Carlos Corberan has expressed his belief that Cedric Kipre and the exceptionally talented Alex Mowatt were always destined to elevate the team’s performance this season.

Kipre and Mowatt rejoined West Brom over the summer after loan stints with Championship competitors Cardiff City and Middlesbrough in the previous season.

Both players have been regular contributors this season and even found the back of the net in West Brom’s impressive 4-0 victory over Preston North End on September 30th. Corberan reflected on his team’s performance and conveyed, as reported by the Express & Star on October 2nd, “I had been closely assessing Mowatt and Kipre’s performance levels from the previous year, and we believed they were two individuals who could significantly enhance the team’s overall performance.

Mowatt, in particular, is an extraordinary player with unique abilities. He has dedicated substantial effort to his growth as a player and still possesses untapped potential that can benefit our team.”

“When you assess the performance levels of players like Mowatt, Okay Yokuslu, Jayson Molumby, or Nathaniel Chalobah, it becomes clear how crucial it is for us to maximize the potential of the players we already have.”

Kipre had an impressive season with Cardiff last year and has been in the starting lineup for eight of West Brom’s nine Championship matches since his return.

Similarly, Mowatt was a key figure for Middlesbrough in the 2022-23 season, making 30 appearances in total. He has now secured a place in Corberan’s midfield and made an impact with his goal and all-around performance in the recent match against Preston.

While West Brom may not have had the financial capacity to make significant signings in the summer, the returns of Kipre and Mowatt have provided a fresh, “new signing” dynamic to the team. In retrospect, their contributions have played a pivotal role in the team’s promising start to the campaign, and Corberan hopes this positive momentum will continue.
