Pep Guardiola is keen to see a departure for the £150,000-a-week Manchester City player come January…

Kalvin Phillips, who arrived from Leeds United, has struggled to make a significant impact at Manchester City. Recent reports suggest that manager Pep Guardiola is open to the idea of letting the defensive midfielder go during the upcoming January transfer window.

According to Football Transfers, Manchester City is now entertaining the possibility of selling Kalvin Phillips in January. The report even goes on to state that Guardiola is actively hoping for Phillips to depart, as it would pave the way for a replacement to be brought in.

Interestingly, Guardiola had apparently been willing to offload Phillips to Fulham during the previous summer transfer window. Negotiations between Fulham and Manchester City were underway for a potential deal involving Phillips.

Fulham was eyeing Phillips as a potential replacement for Joao Palhinha, who seemed destined for Bayern Munich in the closing days of the summer transfer window. However, Palhinha’s move to Bayern ultimately fell through, resulting in Phillips staying at City.

Football Transfers has reported that while City and Guardiola are prepared to part ways with Phillips, the 27-year-old midfielder did not express a desire to leave during the summer transfer window. Whether or not he opts for an exit in January will depend on his preferences.

In our opinion, if Kalvin Phillips no longer fits into Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola’s plans and is deemed unsuitable for the team, it would be wise for the England international to seriously contemplate his future.

Naturally, every footballer aspires to be part of a victorious squad, and City has been incredibly successful, clinching the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, and FA Cup titles in the previous season.

However, from Phillips’ perspective, it would be unfortunate if he continues to warm the bench week after week without getting opportunities to play.

Since his move from Leeds in the summer of 2022, Phillips has been a peripheral figure at City, making only two starts and 10 substitute appearances in the Premier League last season.

Despite his £150,000-a-week earnings, as reported by Spotrac, the England international has played a mere 45 minutes in the Premier League so far this campaign.”
